Asamoah Gyan, AKA Baby Jet is a Ghanaian footballer, who was born on 22nd November, 1985 in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Gyan has chocolate body in complexion and has about 1.8m (180cm) in height.

Baby Jet as many call him is one of the sons of Mr. Baffour Gyan Mensah and Madam Cecelia Amoako, who gave birth to the former Black Star player, Baffour Gyan, the eldest brother of Asamoah Gyan.


Asamoah Gyan attended Seven Great Princess Academy in Dansoman, where he completed in the year 1999. Gyan then continued his education to Accra Academy and completed in 2002.

In the year 2013, Asamoah and the lady he dated for about 10 years, Gifty Sandra Gyamesi got married and gave birth to three children, namely; Raphael Gyan, Floyd Gyan and Frederick Gyan.

Even though there was rumor and once confirmation on the divorce news of Asamoah Gyan and Wife, much cannot be revealed about the head and tail of the divorce brouhaha.

From 2003 – 2008

Asamoah Gyan after completing Senior Secondary School (SHS), entered football fully in 2003. He began his football career with Ghana Premier League (GPL), playing for Liberty Professionals, where he appeared in 16 matches with 10 goals.

Gyan also played for an Italian League (SERIE A) Club, Udinese for five (5) years, where he appeared in 39 matches and netted 11 times for the club.

Gyan while playing for Udinese, also played on loan for Modena for two (2) years, where he appeared in 53 matches with 15 goals for the team.

From 2008 – 2010

Asamoah Gyan after completing his contract with Udinese in Italy, he moved to Rennes, also referred to as Stade Rennais FC. Gyan appeared in 48 matches for the team and scored fourteen (14) goals for the team.

From 2010 -2012/2015

He played for Sunderland Association Football Club (Sunderland A. F. C.). he appeared in 34 matches and netted ten (10) goals. While playing for Sunderland, Gyan was placed on loan to play for a United Arab Emirate club, Al Ain F.C. for a year, where he scored 22 goals after appearing in 18 matches.

After Gyan’s contract with Sunderland, he moved fully to Al Ain F.C. and played another three years for the Arab team, where he appeared 65 times and scored 73 times.

From 2015 -2017

He joined a Chinese Super League club, Shanghai SIPG, a licenced football club under Chinese Football Association. Gyan played twenty (20) matches and scored seven (7) goals for the team. He also played on loan for Al Ahli Dubai on loan in fourteen matches with six (6) goals.

From 2017 – 2019

Gyan moved to a Turkish professional football club based in Kayseri known as Kayserispor, where he recorded five (5) goals in 26 appearances.

From 2019 – 2020

He moved to play for North East United FC, an Indian Super League Club. Gyan appeared in only eight (8) matches and score four (4) goals.

After several years of playing for outside clubs, Asamoah Gyan moved to Ghana in 2020 to play for Legon Cities, a Ghanaian football club. Gyan appeared in five (5) games for the club but did not record any goal yet.

As a great footballer, goal scorer and a striker, Asamoah Gyan was the captain for Ghana National. He made 109 appearances for the Black Stars of Ghana and was able to score 51 goals for his country.

Gyan invested his earnings from other areas of career into real estate business, where he works with building companies. He also has buildings across Ghana where he rent as hostels for students, shops and for other purposes.
