I Was Heavily Criticized By Ghanaians Even Though I Ignored A Contract For Man City To Play At AFCON – Asamoah Gyan
Ghanaian Footballer, Asamoah Gyan, also known Baby Jet, recounts how section of Ghanaians criticized him.
The Black Star Striker in an interview with GB Africa News, revealed how he ignored a contract to play for Man City for AFCON but Ghanaians criticized him.
He expressed that even as he let go the contract to play his country, he felt like the whole nation was against him. That at his tender age at that time, Ghanaians where against him.
“I felt the whole nation was against me”.
“At a tender age, I was 20 years at that time, everybody was against me at that time, and I sacrificed for the nation”, he expressed.
He added that, he should have been out of the tournament but because of the love he has for the country, he decided to come.
“You know, because I had a contract to sign for Man City at that time, I ignored the contract. Because I remember my Agent told me, I should boycott African Cup of Nations (AFCON), go for rehab, and then go and sign the contract”‘, he revealed.
“But I told him, the tournament was very important to me, because Ghana was hosting it”, he added.
He revealed that, he missed 2006 AFCON which would have been his first appearance in AFCON for team Ghana.
“I missed 2006 African Cup of Nations and that would have been my first AFCON. So I had to sacrifice because there were a lot of things going through my minds at that time”, he he recalled.
