Ministry Of Education Rescinds Semester System Policy; Re-instates Trimester System For Basic School

Ministry Of Education Rescinds Semester System Policy; Returns Trimester Policy For Basic School.

 

Withdraw The Trimester To Semester Policy Immediately – Teacher Unions Command GES

 

The Ministry of Education (MoE) in its recent release has reversed the trimester system for basic schools following agitations made by Unions in Education.

 

In the MOE’s release, the Ministry alleged that its Ministerial Committee on School Calendar issued the semester calendar.

 

It states that “following the directives to commence the Semester System, the Ministry has received representation from a section of the public and key educational stakeholders to re-instate the Trimester System”.

 

The release adds, that after several consultation, ” the Honourable Minister for Education has directed that the Calendar for Kindergarten to Junior High School for the current academic year should revert to the Trimester System”.

The Ministry has also reviewed the dates for the school terms, which are as follows:

TERM 1

18th January – 14th April, 2022 (12 Weeks)

15th April – 9th May, 2022 (Vacation)

 

TERM 2

10th May – 18th August, 2022 (14 Weeks)

19th August – 12th September, 2022 (Vacation)

 

TERM 3

13th September – 22nd December, 2022 (14 Weeks).
